Minneapolis French Immersion Background
MFI was the first school created in Minnesota under the Site-Governed School statute (123B.045) which was passed by the Minnesota Legislature in 2009. Teachers and other staff from Minneapolis Public Schools designed the school and wrote the application. They submitted the application to the MPS Board of Education, which approved the school in March 2010.
In the 2015-2016 school year, Minneapolis French Immersion @ Cityview will be completely merged with Cityview School of Innovation. This will allow a great opportunity for families with children in different grades. Children entering Kindergarten could attend Minneapolis French Immersion, and children in older grades can attend Cityview and receive weekly lessons in French and Francophone culture. Transportation, school leadership, and school activities will remain consistent across the building easing the pressure on families of having children in multiple elementary schools.
